The fastest way to convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone is to open heicjpg.online in Safari, pick your photos and tap Download: the conversion starts by itself and you get full resolution JPGs about a second later. Offline, copy the photo in Photos and paste it into the Files app, and the pasted copy is a JPG. To stop the iPhone from making HEIC at all, choose Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible.

Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone in Safari (fastest)

Open the converter. In Safari (Chrome works too), go to heicjpg.online. The page is a single upload area with nothing to configure.
Pick your photos. Tap the upload area, choose Photo Library, select one photo or a batch and tap Add. Each file starts converting as soon as its upload finishes.
Download. About a second later, tap Download next to a photo, or Download all to get every photo in one ZIP.
Save to Photos. Open the JPG in the Files app under Downloads, tap Share, then Save Image. A ZIP unpacks into a folder when you tap it in Files.

Convert HEIC to JPG on iPhone without any app

iOS has no Convert to JPG button, but it converts HEIC quietly in four places.

Copy and paste into Files

In Photos, open the picture, tap Share and choose Copy Photo. Open the Files app, go to On My iPhone, long press an empty area and tap Paste: the new file is a JPG at the same resolution. It works with several photos at once, up to about a dozen before it gets sluggish. To move it to your camera roll, tap Share and Save Image.

Mail or Messages to yourself

Share the photos to Mail and send them to yourself; the attachments arrive as JPGs. Pick Actual Size when asked. Messages also converts when the recipient is not on an Apple device.

A Shortcuts converter

In the Shortcuts app, build a shortcut with Select Photos (switch on Select Multiple), Convert Image (JPEG is the default) and Save to Photo Album. It works offline, but GPS data is kept only with Preserve Metadata switched on, and large batches are slow.

Automatic conversion over USB

Go to Settings > Apps > Photos, scroll to Transfer to Mac or PC and choose Automatic. Photos copied by cable to a computer that cannot read HEIC then arrive as JPG, while the phone keeps the HEIC originals. iCloud Photos, AirDrop and uploads still deliver HEIC. Save iPhone photos as JPG from now on

Open Settings > Camera > Formats and select Most Compatible instead of High Efficiency. From the next shot on, the camera saves JPG. Know the tradeoffs first:

JPG files are roughly twice the size of HEIC, so storage fills up faster.
Video switches from HEVC to H.264, and modes such as 4K at 60 fps, 1080p at 240 fps and HDR video need High Efficiency.
On models with a 48 MP sensor, the high resolution option becomes JPEG Max instead of HEIF Max.
Photos already in your library stay HEIC, so convert them with one of the methods above.
